Rock legend Eric Clapton is set to bank as much as $19 million (£11.88 million) after putting an abstract painting by German artist Gerhard Richter up for sale.
The singer and avid art collector is offloading a piece called Abstraktes Bild (809-4) and auction house bosses at Sotheby's in London expect the work to fetch between $14 million and $19 million (£8.75 million and £11.88 million).
If bids meet the estimated price tag on 12 October (12), Clapton will make a significant profit - he purchased the painting, one of a series of four, in 2001 for $3.4 million (£2.13 million).
Clapton still owns two other Richter pieces from the series, while a fourth painting was snapped up by executives at the Tate and the National Galleries of Scotland as part of a joint purchase.
