Russell Grant is set to host the 'Eurovision Song Contest'.

The 'Strictly Come Dancing' star - who left the ballroom competition last weekend - is the frontrunner to present the BBC's coverage of the annual singing competition next year, taking over duties from Graham Norton.

A source told BANG Showbiz: "Russell would be perfect for 'Eurovision'. He's well and truly in the nation's hearts after his amazing routines on 'Strictly' and would bring his unique humour and zest to the show.

"Russell's always been a huge fan of the competition and watches it every year."

The 60-year-old star is keen to diversify his career following his appearance on the BBC One talent show and wants to move away from astrology, which is how he made his name on television in the 80s, and thinks the 'Eurovision' job would be perfect for him.

Russell and his professional partner Flavia Cacace were voted off 'Strictly Come Dancing' on Sunday night (20.11.11) after landing in the bottom two alongside former 'Neighbours' actress Holly Valance and Artem Chingvintsev.

Russell - who was fired out of canon for his routine on Saturday (19.11.11) - said: "Every show I've done has been a highlight. It's been fantastic.

"The public have been great, the audiences have been great. I've learnt from the judges, I've listened to the judges ... but most of all I've had the most fantastic partner in Flavia.

"'Strictly' has saved my life, absolutely. I owe this show so much and I've got my life back. I only wish this had happened to me 30 years ago, but there's a time and a place for everything."
