Felicity Jones tried to sleep through the Oscar nominations.

The 31-year-old actress - who is nominated in the Best Actress category for her portrayal of Stephen Hawking's wife Jane in 'The Theory of Everything' - has confessed she had planned to stay in bed while the announcements were taking place.

She said: ''[I was] in LA in my pyjamas. I was hoping to sleep through the whole thing and wake up knowing either way.

''But I woke up at 4am and they were announced at 5.30am. When I found out, I leapt out of bed and phoned my family and friends.''

The Birmingham-born star added she can't wait to celebrate the achievement with her nearest and dearest when she returns to the UK.

She said: ''I haven't been back to London yet. I'm looking forward to having a few glasses of champers.''

Felicity - who stars in the film alongside Eddie Redmayne - also can't wait for her family to join her in the US ahead of the awards on February 22 and his hoping to enjoy a beech break following the ceremony to help her relax.

She told Time Out magazine: ''My family are coming out before the awards for a few days. Then after the awards I'll have a few days' break at the beach, relax and unwind. I'm looking forward to a bit of quiet time.''
