Sweet Sweetback's Baad Asssss Song Review
By Christopher Null on Tuesday 1st November 2005
Once X-rated and widely reviled, Melvin Van Peebles' blaxploitation "classic" still doesn't fare well by either artistic standards or simple good taste, but any student of the genre is well advised to check it out. From the first scene -- in which our hero is scene as a young boy, earning his nickname as he vigorously mounts a hooker -- the film screams of obscenity. From then on, it's typical ghetto themes -- dead white guy, racist cops, Black Panthers, and a little jaunt to Mexico. Viva la Peebles!
