Florence Welch used alcohol to give her confidence.

The Florence + The Machine singer admits she went through a stage early in her career of partying too hard but has settled down a lot now.

She said: "There was definitely a time when I was starting out where I was partying way too much.

"We'd party every night as if it was our last gig, I got swept up in the moment and drank. It was a learning experience.

"I used alcohol to give me confidence on stage. Now I feel more comfortable with my music, I find confidence in that, but it took a while to get used to it."

The 'No Light, No Light' singer felt she had to curb her partying so it wasn't hampering her performances.

She added in an interview with LOOK magazine: "At the level I was going, I don't think I could have kept it up. I couldn't carry on like that. I realised people had paid to come and see me and it had to stop."

Though she has curbed her partying, Florence admits she still has wild nights when not working.

She said: "When I'm on tour, I'm really strict with myself. But when I get back to London I still go a bit crazy.

"My sister will say, 'Where have you been for the past couple of days?' And I'll have been going out seeing friends.

"But that's only a blowout now and then, everyone has their moments. I'm still trying to figure out the balance. I'm still learning the best for me. I haven't figured everything out yet."
