Rockers Foo Fighters are back in the studio working on a new album, ending ongoing speculation the group is set to quit.

Last year (12) frontman Dave Grohl sent fans into a spin when he hinted the band would not play together again after its world tour came to an end.

He later set the record straight, insisting the Foo Fighters splitting up is "not gonna happen", and now he has announced the My Hero hitmakers are working on their eighth studio album.

He tells U.K. radio station Xfm, "Well, I'll tell you, we have been in our studio writing, and in the past few weeks we've written an album, and we are going to make this album in a way that no-one's ever done before and we're pretty excited about it.

"It's a little way off - it's not ready to happen right now, but I think next year is going to be a really big year for the Foo Fighters, without question. It's going to be great, I can't wait."

The group's last record, Wasting Light, was released in 2011.
