The Foo Fighters have agreed to play a show in Richmond, Virginia following a successful crowdfunding campaign by fans.

Earlier this year (14), devotee Andrew Goldin and three fellow fans set up a page on Crowdtilt.com in a bid to raise $70,000 (£43,750) to entice the rockers back to Richmond for the first time since 1998.

Hundreds of backers paid $50 (£31) a ticket for the potential show, helping Goldin and friends hit their target, and the drive has prompted Dave Grohl and his bandmates to agree to making a stage comeback in the city.

After hearing the news on Friday, the Foo Fighters reached out to the campaign organisers via Twitter.com, writing, "Well, well, well... See ya soon...let's have a good time."

An official date for the show has yet to be scheduled.
