The Foo Fighters have thrilled their South African fans by announcing they will perform in the country for the first time in their 20-year career.

The Everlong hitmakers will play in Cape Town on 10 December (14), followed by Johannesburg on 13 December (14).

In a video uploaded on Twitter.com, frontman Dave Grohl says, "Hey South Africa, my name's Dave. I play in a band called the Foo Fighters. We've never met, so we're coming down to see you in December. Got a new record to pay for you too. Guess what? It's going to be a long f**king night."

The band's eighth album Lanterns is due for release later this year (14).
