Foo Fighters rocker Dave Grohl believes his transformation from rhythm king to frontman has lost him respect among fellow drummers.

The 36-year-old rocker, who found fame as Nirvana's drummer on the classic Nevermind and IN UTERO albums, is now made to feel like an outsider when he hangs out with sticksmen from other rock bands - all because he expressed his other talents after forming Foo Fighters in the wake of Kurt Cobain's 1994 suicide.

He says, "It's not my first instrument, but it's the one I'm most connected to for whatever reason.

"It's just easier for me, I can turn my brain off. But when I'm hanging out with six or seven drummers, it's like they don't consider me one of them, because I'm the singer of the Foo Fighters.

"There's a whole drummer thing that's like HIGHLANDER.

"When two Highlanders are in the same room with each other, they just know. That's kind of what happens with drummers, but not with me."
