Kenny Wormald has been cast as the lead character in 'Footloose'.

The little-known actor - who is best known for his performances in 'Centerstage: Turn It Up' and MTV series 'Dancelife' - will take on the role of Ren McCormack initially given to both Zac Efron and Chace Crawford in the remake of the classic 80s movie.

Kenny joins Julianne Hough and Dennis Quaid in the reimagining, which begins filming in August.

The film's director and writer Craig Brewer recently revealed the influence the original film - which starred Kevin Bacon and Sarah Jessica Parker - had on his life.

He said: "I saw 'Footloose' in my hometown theatre when I was 13-years-old and it rocked my world."

As well as appearing in various shows, the film's new lead star Kenny has also toured the world as a dancer for both Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake.

'Footloose' is due for release in April 2011.
