The stars of forthcoming horror movie Cabin in the Woods, have spoken to Associated Press about the pitfalls they encountered when filming the movie. Fran Kranz revealed that he was so tuned in to movie life when they were on set that he failed to recognize the gravity of the situation when he came face to face with a real bear, in the woods.
"I went for a little run," he tells reporters, "I wanted to work up a little sweat and just dive right off of the dock and into the lake. As I was running through these trails, I ran right into a black bear. I was filming a movie and my first instinct was, 'oh, what are you doing, get back to base camp, it's just a movie bear, move along.' A part of me was, like, 'oh, it's a guy in a bear suit.' I was not afraid, I did not realise what the real situation was." Kanz also revealed that he based his stoner character, Marty, on a weed-loving ex-girlfriend. "Marty's kinda coherent but I like that energy and fragmented frame of mind. I used a lot of that and it reminded me of an ex-girlfriend of mine. I love her dearly. Maybe it was my way of dealing with the fact I was missing her."
Cabin in the Woods is scheduled for release in the UK on April 13, 2012. The movie follows five friends on a break in a cabin in the woods. The film's directed by Cloverfield's Drew Goddard and co-written by Goddard and Joss Whedon(Buffy the Vampire Slayer / Angel).
