R&B star Frank Ocean has been caught up in a copyright infringement lawsuit over a sample used on his track Super Rich Kids.

Executives at independent label TufAmerica claim the Thinkin Bout You hitmaker broke the law on the 2012 song by incorporating a portion of Mary J. Blige's Real Love single, which in turn sampled a 1973 tune by The Honeydrippers, titled Impeach the President, which they own the rights to.

They filed suit in New York on Friday (07Feb14), listing Ocean's record bosses at Universal Music Group and its parent company Vivendi as defendants. The singer himself is not directly involved in the legal action, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The song in question featured on Ocean's critically-acclaimed debut album, Channel Orange.

TufAmerica chiefs have previously brought similar copyright suits against Jay Z and the Beastie Boys relating to songs sampled from their archives.
