British pop star Frankie Sandford and her soccer player husband have lost a bid to demolish their home and rebuild a luxury mansion in its place.

The Saturdays singer, who is married to sportsman Wayne Bridge, had applied to local authorities for permission to knock down their property in Surrey, England and replace it with a bigger, six-bedroom home complete with a swimming pool and a gym.

However, the plans faced opposition from neighbours, and the local council has now turned their application down, ruling the proposal "inappropriate" and "harmful" to the local area, according to Britain's The Sun on Sunday newspaper.

The couple is parents to a young son named Parker.
