Rockers Franz Ferdinand have played a surprise charity gig to over 100 fans at a hospital in their native Scotland.

The band handed over a cheque for $18,508 (GBP10,282) to the Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital on behalf of Kidney Kids Scotland - and then stunned young patients by previewing new single WALK AWAY ALONG as well as performing their best-known hits.

Band members Alex Kapranos, NICK McCARTHY, BOB HARDY and PAUL THOMSON also stopped to sign autographs and pose for photos.

Frontman Kapranos says, "It is an amazing charity and we just wanted to help."
