Freddie Mercury will return to the stage with Queen as an ''optical illusion''.

The band's late frontman - who passed away in 1991 - will seem to perform on stage during Queen musical 'We Will Rock You', which is based on the 'Bohemian Rhapsody' hitmakers' music and features a number of their signature songs, to mark the 10th anniversary of the stage show.

Guitarist Brian May told BBC News: ''People will come out saying, 'did we actually see Freddie?' ''

The news comes shortly after late rapper Tupac Shakur seemed to appear on stage and perform as a hologram at the Coachella Festival in California last month, but Brian revealed optical illusion of Freddie, which will appear later today (14.05.12), is set to be made possible from different technology.

He explained: ''It's a little unfortunate they did that thing with Tupac as we've been trying to make Freddie appear on the stage for quite a while.

''The hologram technique is something we've looked at ourselves but I think probably for a show that runs eight shows a week it's not really practical.''
