The estranged parents of Gary Coleman are fighting for custody of his remains so he can be returned to his native Illinois.
The tragic actor, who passed away on Friday (28May10), cut off all contact with Sue and Willie Coleman in 1989 after successfully suing them for misappropriating his $3.8 million (£2.53 million) trust fund. He was awarded $1.28 million (£853,340) in 1993.
A funeral for the former child star was expected to be held in Utah, where he lived, this weekend (04-06Jun10) - but the burial plans have been thrown into doubt after his parents were found to be his next of kin following revelations he divorced wife Shannon Price in 2008.
And the Colemans want to fly his remains back to Illinois, according to the Diff'rent Strokes star's longtime manager, Victor Perillo.
Perillo tells the Associated Press, "The arrangement we're working on now is to get Gary back to his next of kin, which (are) his parents.
"The funeral home has been notified, the sheriff's office - we've notified them that there is to be no communication on where the body is to go unless it's dealt with legally with Gary's next of kin, and that's the way it stands right now."
The news comes after Coleman's TV co-star Todd Bridges revealed there is a "big fight" over his secret will.
He said, "There's a big fight going on with his parents and some other people involved... Gary had certain wishes (excluding his parents). I'm not going to go against a dying man's wishes... There's a reason why he didn't speak to them for 23 years."
