Gavin Henson, the Welsh rugby player and star of the UK version of 'The Bachelor', has been sacked by his club Cardiff Blues for his drunken behaviour on a flight from Glasgow to Cardiff on Saturday (March 31, 2012), reports the UK's Daily Telegraph.
The club have announced that Henson, 30, has been dismissed with immediate effect. Henson has apologised for his behaviour, saying he was "truly embarrassed" after being sacked following a meeting with the Blues management this morning. The club's chief executive Richard Holland said in a statement, "The Cardiff Blues management have discussed the matter at length but have acted swiftly since the incident occurred on Saturday morning.Gavin admitted himself that his behaviour was totally unacceptable and the immediate termination of his contract sends out a clear message that behaviour like that will not be tolerated at the Blues". Henson - the former boyfriend of singer Charlotte Church - admitted that he had been out drinking following his club's Friday night fixture at Firhill and that he had carried on drinking during the flight the following morning. The airline Flybe have launched their own investigation into the incident, in which Henson's behaviour was deemed to have been unacceptable.
Henson's career has been blighted by both injury and controversy - he was involved in an incident on a train in December 2007 that saw him charged with disorderly conduct, although the case was dropped.
