George Clooney - George Clooney On Michael Fassbender, "He Can Play Naked Golf"
George Clooney used his acceptance speech at the Golden Globes on Sunday (15 January 2012) to joke about some of the younger Hollywood stars whom he beat to the Best Actor prize. Clooney, 50, landed the gong for his role in Alexander Payne's The Descendants and was on-hand to poke fun at his fellow-nominees.
First up to take Clooney's jibes was his close-friend Brad Pitt, who was quietly tipped to win the award for his role in baseball flick Moneyball. Alluding to the knee injury that Pitt has been nursing since New Year's Eve, Clooney limped on stage with the help of a cane, saying, "I have to give it back to [Pitt].He can't make it to the bar otherwise". Next he moved onto Michael Fassbender, who was nominated for Steve Mcqueen's 'Shame'. Referring to the German-born actor's nude scenes in the flick, Clooney joked, "I would like to thank Michael Fassbender for taking over the frontal nude responsibly that I had.Really Michael, honestly, you can play golf like this with your hands behind your back. Go for it man, do it!". Despite being absent from the ceremony, nominee Ryan Gosling still wasn't safe from George's quips, with The Descendants star saying, "He's in Thailand or something, and you know what you do in Thailand. He wrote me a nice email this morning and I found out that he wasn't able to be here. It happens, you gotta work. He's gotta make a living, he's a struggling actor".
Following his win, Clooney is now the overwhelming favorite to pick up the same award at the Oscars in February - although on the occasion he'll have The Artist star Jean Dujardin to contend with.
