George Clooney is planning to hire a "frumpy" male lead for his next directorial effort.

The 50-year-old actor's latest movie 'The Ides of March' stars heartthrob Ryan Gosling, 30, in the lead role and George joked the young actor made him feel insecure.

Speaking at the American Express Gala screening of 'The Ides of March' at the Odeon in London's Leicester Square last night (19.10.11), he said: "I don't like Ryan. Ryan's a little too dull and too good looking. I'm gonna get someone frumpy to star in my next movie.

"Joking aside though, he's not just having a great year, he's having a great career."

George - who also appears in the politically-set movie - revealed he doesn't find it difficult to direct himself because he just thinks every take is fantastic.

He quipped: "I'm very kind to me. I direct a take and I go, 'That was great, I was so good.'"

George's co-stars Evan Rachel Wood and Philip Seymour Hoffman also attended the premiere, which was held as part of the 55th BFI London Film Festival.
