The beloved newscaster who introduced American radio listeners to western series GUNSMOKE has died at the age of 88.

George Walsh's voice started the hit show every week throughout the 1950s with the line, "Around Dodge City and in the territory out West, there's just one way to handle the killers and the spoilers, and that's with a US marshal and the smell of gunsmoke."

Walsh died of congestive heart failure on 5 December (05) at a medical centre in Monterey, California.
