Soul star Gerald Levert has accused MTV bosses of making his daughter look like a spoiled brat on their teen reality TV series MY SUPER SWEET 16.

The CASANOVA singer insists his daughter CARLISIA is nothing like the "materialistic young lady" portrayed recently on the show, which documented her 16th birthday party preparations.

Levert and his daughter have become the targets of an internet hatemail campaign as fans of the show attack Carlisia for her behaviour on the programme, but her father insists the show was badly edited.

He tells Sister 2 Sister magazine, "I was very disappointed in the editing and I didn't like the way they tried to make her so materialistic.

"As they were shooting I was like, 'This is not going to be like all those other bratty kids I've seen on the show.' After the first time, I couldn't watch it anymore.

"I really thought it was unfair the way they edited it. They should have showed us the edit.

"I didn't really want her to do it (the show) in the first place because I felt like it was a show that just wanted to show off. (My daughter) was hurt for about four or five days. She didn't come out of her room because of just reading all the reviews and all the things people were saying."
