Geri Halliwell has stopped drinking to look younger.

The 'Wannabe' hitmaker - who has six-year-old daughter Bluebell Madonna - has cut out sugar from her diet and says laying off the booze makes her look and feel healthier.

Geri told HELLO! magazine: ''Alcohol is full of sugar. Besides, if I'm going to find the balance of being a mum and having a social life, I just can't put a hangover in there.''

She added: ''I can't restrict myself, but I do try to abstain from sugar. That's my thing - if I have one little bit, it's a trigger.

''I'm addicted to it. And sugar is ageing. Without it my skin is better.''

The former Spice Girl, 40, has been scrutinized over her Yo-Yo weight and changing appearance in the past, but is adamant she would never resort to plastic surgery and plans to grow old gracefully.

Geri explained: ''A lot of women lie about their age. But if I'm to be true to what I've stood for all this time, then it's important to say this is my age and it's fine.

''I don't think there's anything wrong with going down that route, but each to their own.

''I would say easy does it, as my mother says, we don't know the long-term side effects - so the jury's out.''
