Ewan MCGregor has jokingly recalled how he punched his Haywire co-star Gina Carano in the head by accident. The pair star in Steven Soderbergh's action-packed movie about a 'black ops super soldier', though it wasn't the crazy stunts that caused some of the injuries on-set.
Speaking to E! Online at the Golden Globes on Sunday (15 January, 2012), MCGregor recalled, "The only time I got hurt was when I punched Gina Carano in the head by accident". Asked to expand on the incident, the Scottish actor said, "I had a series of three punches, but the third one...for one reason or another I connected really hard on the side of her head..She was the one who got straight up and said, 'Are you OK?' She was asking me if I was OK! But she was right because I almost broke my friggin' hand!". MCGregor said Hollywood's new female action star was "absolutely fine" and filming continued as usual. Carano is best known for her work on 'American Gladiators' and as a Mixed Martial Arts fighting champion (Mma) - Haywire is her big screen debut but she's already taking all the plaudits despite an all-star cast that includes Michael Fassbender, Antonio Banderas, Channing Tatum, Michael Douglas and MCGregor himself. Writing in the Chicago Tribune, critic Michael Phillips said, "Carano may not be a born or a natural actress; she is, however, an undeniable and heartening rebuke to the skinny-Minnies Hollywood favors over real women with curves". Peter Howell of the Toronto Star offered, "Haywire is really just a vehicle for Carano to demonstrate her action chops, which she does with a vengeance".
Gina's performance looks to have won her a role in 'Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters'. The fighter-turned-actress is rumored to be joining the project as character 'Circe'.
