The hologram of the late Tupac Shakur has quickly become one of the most talked-about acts of last weekend's Coachella. Footage and images of the hologram Tupac have gone viral online, with people sharing them via Facebook and Twitter. Whilst many Tupac fans are still reeling from seeing their hero 'perform' once more, MTV News spoke to the company that created the hologram and enabled the spectacle to happen.

"We worked with Dr Dre on this and it was Dre's vision to bring this back to life," said Nick Smith of AV Concepts. The San Diego based company were the technical whizz-kids that made the hologram happen, but Smith explains that the whole thing had been Dre's idea. "It was his idea from the very beginning and we worked with him and his camp to utilize the technology to make it come to life. Smith was unable to talk in detail about the technology behind the hologram, but he did reveal the possibilities of the holographic wonder: "You can take (a person's) likenesses and voice and ... take people that haven't done concerts before or perform music they haven't sung and digitally recreate it."

This isn't the first time that holograms have been used live onstage in recent years - AV Concepts have also worked with Madonna and Gorillaz for their live shows - but it could well be the most memorable and, indeed, the most memorable for thousands of hip-hop fans across the globe.
