PUNXSUTAWNEY PHIL is all set to once again predict the winter weather for the next six weeks.
PUNXSUTAWNEY PHIL will emerge on Groundhog Day (3rd February 2011) in the town of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, to predict the weather, reports Fox.
Phil will emerge at 7.25am tomorrow and the myth goes that another six weeks of winter weather will be on its way if the groundhog sees his shadow as dawn breaks. If Phil casts no shadow, then an early Spring will commence. Millions are likely to tune in to catch the Groundhog's prediction on live internet streams and the holiday is said to have originated in Pennsylvania in the 18th and 19th centuries, however, some historians claim that Groundhog Day may have origins in ancient Europe.
According to Punxsutawney Phil's official website, he has been predicting the weather since 1887 and has so far seen his shadow 99 times. In recent years, Phil has had competition, most notably in the form of 'Buckeye Chuck', Ohio's weather predicting Groundhog.
