It was only a moderate success at the Halloween box office, as such things are measured, but with $24.2 million in ticket sales, Saw 3D far surpassed Paranormal Activity 2 , with which it was expected to wage a close race. Box office gurus had forecast that each film would take in about $20 million and gave the seventh Saw film a slight edge. But as things turned out, Paranormal Activity 2 dropped 60 percent from its previous week to $16.5 million. The Saw film also pushed the franchise further into record territory. The sixth installment put it in the Guinness Book Of World Records as the most successful horror franchise, even though it produced half the number of sequels as the Friday the 13th series. (There are nine Nightmare On Elm Street flicks.) All seven Saw films have earned $757 million to date.
