Gwen Stefani says looking good is "a daily struggle".

The 41-year-old singer admits she sacrifices her favourite foods to stay in shape and and says she "beats herself up" if she isn't looking her best.

She said: "It's a daily struggle. I work out five days a week, I can't imagine not doing it.

"I'd like to have no rules and eat what I want, but I've learned over the years that I'm so disappointed when I can't wear the clothes I want to wear. And if I let myself down, appear on stage when I'm not looking my best, it's not fun for me. I beat myself up about it."

The No Doubt star - who has sons Kingston, four, and two-year-old Zuma with husband Gavin Rossdale - also confessed her beauty routine is just as strict and she will never leave the house without her face and hair perfectly made up.

She said: "It really is a lot of maintenance to be a girl! Just when you think you're done getting your hair done you're off trying to pluck or do something else.

"But I'm the type of person - I like getting ready to go out more than I like going out. I wear make-up every single day."
