Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin secretly separated in May 2013.

The 'Iron Man' actress, who officially filed for divorce from the Coldplay frontman in Los Angeles yesterday (20.04.15), has revealed they informally ended their marriage 10 months before they announced the news in March 2014.

The 42-year-old actress, who has been dating 'Glee' co-creator Brad Falchuk since last summer, cited irreconcilable differences as their reason for their split in her nine-pages of court documents, and is also seeking joint custody of their children, Apple, 10, and Moses, nine.

Gwyneth previously admitted that she and Chris, 38, went through ''a year of quiet separation'' while she was filming 'Mortdecai' alongside Johnny Depp and sought his advice.

Speaking in February, she said: ''Nobody knew what Chris and I had been going through, so I didn't say 'Hey, this is what's happening.' But I did ask him mostly children-centric questions, like 'How is it on them? How did you do it?' ''

The blonde beauty also insisted ''there was nothing dramatic'' about her split from the 'Magic' hitmaker, who is dating Jennifer Lawrence, and they remain on good terms.

The Oscar winner said: ''We've worked really f**king hard to get to [this] point. But we're very, very close, and it's so nice. I feel like it's, in a way, the relationship we were meant to have.''
