Gwyneth Paltrow had to turn down the chance to make her movie debut in rapper Vanilla Ice's 1991 movie Cool As Ice, because her dad wouldn't let her take on the role.

Filmmaker Bruce Paltrow felt the part would be a terrible career move for his actress daughter, and insisted she had to wait for another project to come along.

She says, "My father was very protective of me and the first movie, actually, that I ever got offered was to be in the Vanilla Ice movie. My dad wouldn't let me do it.

"I was like, 'But dad, it's, like, a part in a movie'. He was like, 'Nope!'"

The actress finally made her movie break the same year when she played Young Wendy in family friend Steven Spielberg's Hook.
