Hank Williams Jr. caused a stir at the Cmt Artists of the Year awards on Tuesday (29Nov11) by leaving the stage partway through his duet with Jason Aldean.
The pair teamed up to sing Aldean's Tattoos on This Town, but Williams Jr. stunned onlookers when he dashed off before the track had ended.
Williams' spokesman Kirt Webster said after the show in Nashville, Tennessee that the star left because he was unhappy with his performance, which was staged to honour Aldean's Artist of the Year prize.
Aldean later returned to sing the track alone. He had earlier told reporters, "It was really kind of funny watching him go about music the way he does. He's kind of like, 'OK, this is the way y'all do it. I'm going to do it the way I do it.' It's just the way it is. And you go, 'It's Hank,' you know. 'Make it sound like (sic) you want it to sound, bro.' But he's awesome. I don't know what else to say about the guy. He's the real deal as far as country singers go."
Taylor Swift, Brad Paisley, Lady Antebellum and Kenny Chesney were also among the country stars honoured at the ceremony for their contributions to the genre.
The prizegiving, hosted by Rob Lowe, will air in America on 13 December (11).
