Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling is furious with her law firm's bosses after one legal eagle confessed he had inadvertently outed her as the mystery writer of new crime novel The Cuckoo's Calling.
Rowling released the critically-acclaimed book, about a war veteran turned private investigator, earlier this year (13) under the pen name Robert Galbraith, but she was revealed as the mastermind behind the novel over the weekend (13-14Jul13).
On Thursday (19Jul13) Chris Gossage, a partner at British law firm Russells, confessed to accidentally leaking the news to his wife's best friend, who took to her Twitter.com account to share the secret, which was subsequently picked up by editors at the Sunday Times newspaper.
And now Rowling has spoken out to express her anger over the exposure of her pseudonym, telling the Associated Press, "Only a tiny number of people knew my pseudonym and it has not been pleasant to wonder for days how a woman whom I had never heard of prior to Sunday night could have found out something that many of my oldest friends did not know.
"To say that I am disappointed is an understatement. I had assumed that I could expect total confidentiality from Russells, a reputable professional firm, and I feel very angry that my trust turned out to be misplaced."
