Harry Potter author J.K. ROWLING struggled with obsessive compulsive disorder (Ocd) in her teens.

The beloved British writer, who is currently promoting her upcoming adult novel The Casual Vacancy, has previously opened up about her emotional problems regarding her sudden rise to fame, admitting she frequently sought help from a therapist to make sense of her new life.

And now the 47 year old reveals she also suffered with an anxiety disorder in her younger years.

During an interview with U.S. news show Nightline, set to air in America on Wednesday (26Sep12), she says, "We have an adult character in the book (The Casual Vacancy) who has obsessive compulsive disorder, and these are things I know from the inside.

'When I was in my teens I had issues with Ocd. Compulsions, (like) checking things, double checking, triple checking. It's an anxiety disorder."

But Rowling, who recently confessed to a battle with depression, insists her dark days are behind her.

She adds, "I haven't been depressed for, must be more than a decade. Harry Potter gave me back self-respect, Harry gave me a job to do that I love more than anything else."
