Emily Vancamp is reportedly in talks to star in 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier'.

The 'Revenge' actress is being lined up for the lead female role in the sequel to the popular 2011 Marvel film from directors Joe and Anthony Russo, after having beaten actresses including Jessica Brown Findlay, Emilia Clarke and Alison Brie to the part, Deadline reports.

The new film will begin with the Captain (Chris Evans) settling in to modern day America after he helped fight crime alongside fellow superheroes in 2012's 'The Avengers'.

Although Emily's role has not been confirmed, it is thought she will play Sharon Carter - a descendent of the Captain's first love during World War II, Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell).

Sebastian Stan, who plays the hero's friend James Buchanan 'Bucky' Barnes, will be returning to the franchise along with Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Toby Jones reprising his role as Dr. Arnim Zola.

'The Hurt Locker' star Anthony Mackie will join the cast as Falcon, alongside fellow newcomer Joe Grillo playing Crossbones.

Scarlett Johansson is also rumoured to make a cameo in the film as her 'Avengers' character Black Widow.

The script has been penned by Christopher Markus and Steven McFeely and is scheduled for release on April 4 2014.
