Helena Bonham Carter is set to pit herself against Gillian Anderson in a rival adaptation of Great Expectations.
Anderson has signed up to play a younger, sexier version of Charles DICkens' ageing spinster Miss Havisham in a British TV adaptation of the classic novel, opposite Hollywood hardman Ray Winstone as the villainous Magwitch.
It has now been revealed Bonham Carter will also be taking on the famous role in a separate film version, while Harry Potter star Ralph Fiennes will play Magwitch.
The film will be directed by Mike Newell and is due to begin shooting in October (11).
Both projects are being produced to coincide with the bicentenary of DICkens' birth next year (12) and other DICkens projects in the works for the anniversary include a new film and TV show based on Oliver Twist.
