Alec Baldwin turned down a role in a Marvel movie.

The '30 Rock' actor had been offered the role of a villain in an upcoming superhero film, but reveals that while he wanted to take the part, he ultimately declined as his wife Hilaria Baldwin is due to give birth imminently.

Speaking on 'The Howard Stern Show', he said: ''I have [been offered a role in a superhero movie], but I won't mention which one. I don't want to undo somebody because they hired someone else to do it. But they asked me to play a villain in one of these Marvel Comics movies.

''I wasn't available. They wanted me to work a certain time, and because of my wife's pregnancy, I had to turn down two films this summer that I wanted to do.''

While Baldwin is reluctant to name the role he declined, it's possible the actor was approached for a role in James Gunns' intergalactic movie, 'Guardians of the Galaxy', which is currently being filmed at Shepperton Studios in England.

Baldwin will next be seen starring alongside Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett in Woody Allen's critically acclaimed drama, 'Blue Jasmine'.

The film tells the story of a rich and glamorous New York City housewife whose life is turned upside down when her high-powered husband is exposed for running a Ponzi scheme.
