Scarlett Johansson is being considered to play US senator Hillary Clinton in a new biopic about her life.
Scarlett Johansson could play Hillary Clinton in a new film.
The 'Avengers Assemble' actress is being considered to star as the lead in a biopic about the former US First Lady and senator titled 'Rodham'.
However, the actress will have to face stiff competition from 'Mud' star Reese Witherspoon, 'Zero Dark Thirty' actress Jessica Chastain and 'Les Miserables' beauty Amanda Seyfried, who are all being considered to play the politician.
Director James Ponstoldt told The Independent newspaper: ''They're all wonderful actresses. We're very fortunate that a lot of really great actors are interested in playing these roles. We're in an enviable position.
''Regardless of people's political affiliation or how they feel about Hillary Clinton, you don't find people who question the quality of her intelligence or her drive. I want a wonderful actress who could embody that.''
'Rodham' relays the story of Clinton's early years working as a lawyer in Washington, DC in 1974 before her marriage to future US president Bill Clinton.
The film has already proved controversial for its focus on the politician's personal life including some risqué scenes, but scriptwriter Young il-Kim has defended his work insisting the scenes have merit.
He said: ''I didn't write '50 Shades of Rodham', as some news outlets are suggesting. I am a boring prude with little imagination. She was an attractive 26-year-old with an amazing future. And that's our thematic focus.''
The film is expected to hit cinemas in time for the 2016 US presidential elections in which Hilary Clinton is expected to be a candidate.
