All those tens of millions of dollars that went into the marketing of Despicable Me 2 have redounded to the benefit of the original film on the DVD/Blu-ray disc market. In fact, it rose to the top of the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart for the week ended July 7, a rarity for a Home Video offering that originally hit the shelves nearly three years ago. Family films Oz the Great and Powerful from Disney and Warner's Jack the Giant Slayer finished at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. On Home Media magazine's rental chart, Universal's Identity Thief took over the top spot after Netflix and Redbox held back its release the requisite 28 days. Twentieth Century Fox's A Good Day to Die Hard placed second on the rental list.
