TBS's Hope of creating a solid two-hour late-night block of Conan O'Brien followed by George Lopez has gone the way of the primetime Jay Leno/O'Brien- Tonight -show fiasco, with Lopez axed after less than a year in his midnight timeslot (and O'Brien struggling in the ratings). TBS, however, is not allowing Lopez the long goodbye that NBC disastrously gave to O'Brien. It said in a perfunctory announcement on Wednesday that tonight's (Thursday) Lopez Tonight telecast will be his last. It will then air repeats for a few weeks, followed by reruns of The Office . "We are proud to have partnered with George Lopez, who is an immensely talented comedian and entertainer," the announcement said. "TBS has valued its partnership with George and appreciates all of his work on behalf of the network, both on and off the air." The company's news release did not include a comment from Lopez, who tweeted late in the day, "Thanks for all your message's [sic] and support. Have a great night everybody." Then, on his television show, he seemed to compare his plight with Charlie Sheen's, when he joked, "I'm taking it good, but my goddesses are a wreck. They left me." Then, a moment later "In case you did not see the news on unemployment, it's at an all time high, and for Latinos, it just got a little higher."
