Hugh Jackman's robot boxing film Real Steel fought off competition to debut at the top of the U.S. box office, raking in $27. 3 million (£17 million) over the weekend (07-09Oct11).
George Clooney and Ryan Gosling's highly-anticipated political drama The Ides of March premiered at second place with takings of $10.4 million (£6.5 million), while last week's (ends02Oct11) box office winner Dolphin Tale fell to third place after grossing $9.2 million (£5.8 million).
Rounding out the top five were Brad Pitt's baseball movie Moneyball ($7.5 million/£4.7 million) and cancer comedy 50/50 ($5.5 million/£3.4 million) at fourth and fifth place respectively.
