Rapper Ice Cube is planning to make a series of harrowing dramas about the black struggle in America after becoming a Hollywood heavyweight after a string of successful movies.

The BARBERSHOP star insists films like Are We There Yet? and XXX: STATE OF THE UNION are merely vehicles for him to gain studio credibility in Tinseltown - and his next projects will be more historical.

He says, "I'd like to tell more dramas, more stories about our plight here and stories that people don't know about. If you hadn't experienced it you would never get a taste of it.

"There's a time and a place for that because when I do them I want to be able to do them on my terms.

"Right now I'm doing movies to gain a certain respect in Hollywood with people who greenlight movies and finance movies.

"I'm 35, so I feel like I got a long career ahead of me. Hopefully, in the future, I could start pulling in some of these projects I got deep in my heart."
