Pierce Brosnan thinks Idris Elba should play James Bond.

The 61-year-old star - who appeared in the role of the iconic spy in four films from 1994 to 2002 - has given his backing to Elba, who appears in 'The Gunman' and is also well known for his role in 'The Wire'.

Asked whether he thinks Elba would make a good Bond, he said: ''Yeah, he would actually. Colin Salmon also. May the best man get the job.''

However, Brosnan also revealed himself to be a huge fan of Daniel Craig, who's currently filming the latest Bond movie 'SPECTRE'.

Speaking to Radio Times magazine, he said: ''Daniel has made his mark gloriously ... May Daniel bring home the bacon for as long as he wants.''

Meanwhile, Elba has already revealed he would be keen to take on the role of the secret agent.

During a Q&A on website Reddit, he was asked whether he'd like to star as Bond, to which he replied: ''Yes, if it was offered to me, absolutely.''

Elba is currently starring in 'The Gunman' alongside Ray Winstone, Mark Rylance and Sean Penn, all of whom attended the world premiere of the movie in London earlier this week (16.02.15).
