Rapper Immortal Technique has been giving back to the Islamic community - by helping to build an orphanage in war-torn Afghanistan.
The MC, real name Felipe Coronel, is known for his politically-driven rhymes and he recently travelled to the Muslim country to volunteer in the construction of the Amin Institute in the capital city of Kabul.
Coronel had been instrumental in raising funds for the Institute, playing a series of benefit concerts and donating some of his own money to turn the plans for the children's orphanage, school and medical facility into a reality, reports BallerStatus.com.
He joined fellow volunteers and staff members for its grand opening last week (ends03Apr09), and the rapper has praised locals for making him feel at home during his trip.
He says, "If you are a visitor, they will treat you like one of their own and more... They are some of the humbled and more respectful people I have ever come across. You have to admire their resilience of their spirit, fighting again and again (against the Taliban and Al Qaeda) to retain their independence and identity."
The hip-hop star has filmed his travels for a movie with director C. Stuart, who accompanied him to Afghanistan.
