Former White Stripes star Jack White has been made an ambassador of his adopted Nashville, Tennessee.
The rocker was honoured for helping to promote the city through his music at a ceremony on Saturday night (16Apr11).
Nashville Mayor Karl Dean named him the recipient of the first-ever Music City Ambassador Award, telling the star, "Today's award recognises an individual who carries Nashville's diverse musical message worldwide.
"Jack White's individual talent and unique creative spirit bridges gaps between genres and generations and I couldn't be more pleased to thank him for his work on behalf of the music industry and its hometown."
A delighted White told the ceremony audience, "Every day we're excited to be in a city that truly fosters local music and businesses and new ideas."
White's Third Man Records company is based in Nashville and the star lives there with his wife, model Karen Elson, and their two children.
