WHITE STRIPES star Jack White is secretly forming a new group with Detroit, Michigan, neighbour Brendan Benson.

Benson, who has been supporting Irish group Keane on tour in England, has been working with White on the project for much of this year (04), and confesses he's enjoying the collaboration.

He says, "We've got 11 or 12 songs recorded, but not completely finished. We still need to sing vocals on some of the songs.

"He (White) lives two or three blocks away from me, and we've been friends for a really long time. So this just seemed like a good excuse to see what would happen when we worked together. It seems to be working out.

"There's stuff on there that sounds like Cat Stevens, and there's some stuff on there that sounds like Led Zeppelin. I can say some of the stuff sounds like pure Jack White. You can hear it and say, 'Oh, that's a Jack White song.'"

The new group also features GREENHORNES rockers PATRICK KEELER and JACK LAWRENCE, who worked with White when he produced country queen Loretta Lynn's last album VAN LEAR ROSE.
