Jack White is on board with Disney Pictures, to soundtrack the forthcoming movie the Lone Ranger. The movie is directed by Gore Verbinski and will star Armie Hammer as the Lone Ranger, whilst Johnny Depp plays the role of Tonto. Images of Armie and Johnny in full costume recently surfaced online, as anticipation begins to mount for the release of the movie. Fans will have to wait a fair while though; the movie's not scheduled for release until May 2013.
The Press Association announced today (April 25, 2012) that the former White Stripes frontman has been selected to compose the soundtrack to the movie. The news comes just days after White released his debut solo album, Blunderbuss, to largely adoring reviews. This is the first time that White has turned his hand to writing a movie score, though he has plenty of experience as a songwriter, performer and producer. Since the demise of the White Stripes, Jack has also been a member of The Dead Weather and The Raconteurs. In 2008, he also contributed the theme tune to the James Bond movie Quantum of Solace, which was performed with Alicia Keys.
'Blunderbuss' was released on Monday on White's Third Man record label. Among the musicians included on the album is his ex-wife, the supermodel Karen Elson. Elson sings backing vocals for a couple of the tracks on the album. Last night, White performed on Later. With Jools Holland in the UK.
