Jackie Chan is alive and well, despite another death hoax that began circulating social networking sites on Wednesday (17th August 2011). The Hong Kong actor and martial artist has emerged as a favourite amongst hoaxers who attempt to spread fake celebrity deaths on Twitter.
The latest rumour comes after fans of the legendary actor turned their attention to a new Facebook page titled Rip Jackie Chan. The page, which has already garnered over 50,000 followers, features a picture of the actor wearing a tuxedo and includes the message, 'R.I.P. Jackie Chan (8/17/11)' The Rush Hour star had to dispel rumours of his death back in March, after a story circulating Twitter claimed he had died during a snowboarding accident in Switzerland. In a message on his Facebook page, the actor's spokesperson wrote, "Jackie Chan is alive and well.He did not suffer a heart attack and die, as was reported on many social networking sites and in online news reports". The statement added that the actor was "busy preparing for the filming his next movie" Other victims of recent death hoaxers include the soul singer Etta James and Playboy mogul Hugh Hefner.
Chan recently completed filming the upcoming action-adventure movie 1911 (Xinhai Geming), about the founding of the Republic of China when nationalist forces overthrew the Qing Dynasty.
