French comic actor Jacques Villeret died on Friday (28JAN05) following a haemorrhage. He was 53.

The short, rotund star, was best known for his supporting roles in a series of film and TV productions, including THE DINNER GAME, THE CHILDREN OF THE MARSHLANDS and MALABAR PRINCESS.

Villeret, a known alcoholic suffering from liver problems and diabetes, had two films scheduled for release this year (05).

The CESAR award winner died in a Paris hospital, only nine days before his 54th birthday.
