Jake Bugg has hit out at TV talent shows.

The 19-year-old musician has slammed the various singing contests for being just money making scheme, claiming that judges only put through contestants that will boost ratings and provide entertainment for viewers.

Jake is quoted by The Sun newspaper as saying: ''It's not about the talent. It never has been. Those shows are about who the judges think the public will like the most and who they can make the most money from.''

The singer/songwriter - who discovered his own passion and talent for music at the age of 12 - is confident that he doesn't need to perform tricks on stage to win over his fans like most other artists because his vocals and instrumentals prove his remarkable ability on their own.

He explained: ''Some people say I have no stage presence and don't talk much, but I'm not about that.

''I don't need a load of stage tricks. I write songs and play songs.''

The star - who grew up on a council estate in a tough part of Nottingham, England - previously said he wanted his second album to stay true to his ''working class'' roots and reflect his childhood background even though his life has completely changed now.

He said previously: ''My life has changed in the last few years in a massive way. I used to write about experiences like drinking in the street ... I wouldn't be able to talk about that on my next album, that wouldn't be honest.

''I can still tell stories though. It's important to me to talk about the working class background I come from and people's lives.''
