Gyllenhaal: 'Ledger's Death Gave Me Courage To Change'
Jake Gyllenhaal re-evaluated his life following the death of friend Heath Ledger - because the star realised he had become too focused on his career.
The actor was devastated when his Brokeback Mountain co-star died from an accidental drug overdose in January 2008.
The loss prompted Gyllenhaal to address his own issues - and he credits Ledger's passing with giving him the courage to make changes.
He tells America's GQ magazine, "Life, I didn't totally understand. And I think I was afraid of life. And I had success in my work, enough success that you could keep going back there.
"But after (Ledger's death) happened... I think I recognised that it was work. And I recognised that this is for real."
