Country singer Jake Owen has broken his collar bone while snowboarding during the Bmi Songwriters Festival in Crested Butte, Colorado.
The Alone With You hitmaker was boarding down the slopes on a break from the event last week (end15Jan12) when he hit an ice block and took a tumble.
He was taken to a hospital and then flown back to his native Nashville, Tennessee, where he was told by orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Thomas Dovan that his collar bone had suffered multiple fractures.
The singer writes on Twitter.com, "Just broke my collarbone. Guess I charged this mountain a little too hard."
On Monday (16Jan12) he underwent surgery, revealing to his fans, "Seriously feel blessed and so thankful for kind well wishes for me in surgery today. I'm headed in now. Love you guys."
He then posted a picture of himself in the hospital bed following the operation, alongside the words, "I'm out y'all. Took longer than expected. I'm a lil groggy but I'll b back at it soon. Thanks for all your kind words."
Owen was hoping he'd still be able to play his scheduled shows throughout the rest of January (12), but he has now had to postpone the gigs while he recovers.
He adds, "I'm so bummed that I have to postpone some shows but I promise you this, I'll be back out on the road as soon as possible. I probably won't be able to hold a guitar for a while but I can still perform."
